5 Tips on How You Can Build an AUTHORITATIVE Recruiting Brand!

Let’s talk about branding and specifically how you could build an authoritative brand, the Relevant Recruiter way.

What I’m about to share with you is exactly how John Randolph and Tim Tonella are able to build authoritative recruiting brands.

The first thing is you want to make sure that you know exactly who you’re trying to be an authority for. If you’re a small business owner, it’s impossible to try to be the master of all or what they call “the jack of all trades and master of none.” So, what I would recommend is picking out a very small part of the market: your ideal targeted market.

If you have been following me for a while, you know that I’m very much in favor of picking a niche. That would be who you’re trying to become an authority to. Through your small target market and from there, what we want to do is to start picking out – what is your point of view? What is your methodology? What is your strong stance on things?

There’s a lot of different ways that you can talk about, but you want to talk about your point of view when it comes to recruiting specific roles that you have – or what your methodology is. Is it to help solve these specific problems so that the market has something to grab onto, some sort of an authoritative presence and an authoritative way of showing up that you have is different. So you need to have a very strong point of view on how you do things and how things should be done.

If you really want to be viewed as an authority, you can’t try to be the likable guy. If you want to be an authority, you have to have a strong position. So you need to figure out what your point of view is on the market.

Figure out what your methodology is and start to go show up in the market.

The most important thing about this whole thing is you’ve got to find a way to be visible and a lot of folks in this market are actually really good at what they do. They might be better recruiters than half of them out there, but the challenge is there is not enough people that know about them.

You need to really focus on being visible. You need to focus on taking this authoritative presence to your website and all of your social media channels, making sure that the presence is congruent across all these channels. What you’re saying on your website should be the same thing that you’re saying on your LinkedIn page, your Facebook page, Twitter, Instagram and Youtube to make sure that you have that congruent messaging.

The next thing you want to do is think about borrowing credibility. So, who in your market might be a little bit further along than you are?

Are there other people that you can align with? Other potential vendors and partners that you can align with? Maybe pull off of their authority to pull off of their reputation to enhance your own?

Some of you may follow John Lee Dumas (he is a podcaster.) He is an absolute prime example of this because he started out of thin air and he just interviewed experts and since then, he’s basically put himself as being an expert in the business.

Who are the other vendors that you can work with? Are there other podcasts in your industry? Are there other bloggers that you can touch base with to see if you can leverage their audience, their list and their credibility to further build your authority faster?

The last thing and probably the most important thing about building an authority is being consistent. The more consistent you are, the more credible your market perceives you as being an authority.

So, if you really want to build authority, you need to create your content, you need to create consistently and think about content in all different ways, shapes and forms. There should be short videos and longer videos, possible training and quick short form text pictures, checklists, lead magnets, guides – anything you can that will further enhance your authority with content. In doing that consistently over and over and over again, is ultimately what’s going to build your authority in the marketplace.

That’s how you could build your authoritative brand, the Relevant Recruiter way!
