You don’t have to be, I promise.

I spoke with someone today that was hesitant about being an “expert” because of their lack of experience.

But being an expert isn’t about experience or being a certain way ….

It’s about becoming better at something than your prospective client is….

And ultimately solving their biggest problems.

If you are tired of being another commodity in your market place and….

…. you want to become the authority, expert or thought leader…

Here are a 5 TIPS TO BECOME VIEWED AS THE RECRUITMENT EXPERT IN YOUR MARKET:

1) KNOW YOU MARKET – The first step is to know what market you want to be an expert in. You can’t be an expert by being the jack of all trades. You need to know your marketplace better than your prospective clients so you can uncover the hidden gems like the average recruiter can’t.

2) PROVIDE SOLUTIONS NOT BODIES – Successful recruiters know that they are not just putting bodies in seats. They realize that they are there to provide solutions to client problems. At the end of the day, your client needs to believe that you have “been there, done that” to convince them that you are indeed the expert in the space.

3) BE CREATIVE AND DIFFERENT- News flash! Your industry focus, expertise and ability to provide only three qualified candidates doesn’t make you different. I hear those responses everyday when I speak with recruiters so if you think that’s what makes you different, think again. You have to be more creative and show up differently than your competitors. If you can nail down this authority positioning then you have the opportunity to truly differentiate.

4) DON’T WAIT FOR CLIENTS TO CONTACT YOU – If you are trying to be an authority by sitting around and waiting for clients coming to you, you will soon be closing your doors. Experts don’t sit back; they disrupt with their thoughts and opinions. This is how you become viewed as the expert. Have a proactive that engages with your market daily.

5) DON’T RELY ON SOMEONE ELSE’S THOUGHTS – There is absolutely no way you can truly become an expert, authority or thought leader in your market place if you have someone else writing your content. Your thoughts have to be original and they have to be congruent with who you are. People can see right through content that is not their own.

The ultimate goal needs to be building deep connections with your prospective clients so when their needs arise, you are the most obvious choice in the marketplace.

You do exactly that when your market views you as the “expert.”

So stop being a commodity and hustling after the same jobs as everyone else in town.
