Today is different for me.
Last night I had to put down my dog, Mr. B .
Normally, as I do my writing and work I can look to my right and he would be laying there looking at me.
Today is the first time in over 12 years that he is not right by my side and I can honestly say that there is a piece of me missing.
This one hurts.
I got Mr B when he was six-weeks-old and we were best buds ever since. From the beginning, I had the pleasure of taking him to work with me everyday. He always made everyday interesting as you never knew what kind of mischief he would be up to. From eating frozen pork chops off the counter to scaring people from the back of the truck, there was never a dull moment.
Mr. B witnessed first-hand me making a complete mess of my 20’s but he was the always there by my side no matter what. He was there through all my growth as a person and he certainly had a major part in it. I think I took for granted that I always had him there as my rock. Didn’t matter if I was happy, sad or mad- he was always there with a smile on his face.
He reminds me what real loyalty looks like.
Mr B was as loyal as they come all the way until the end.
He worked his ass off everyday to be by my side because to him – that was his job.
Even yesterday as he could no longer walk anymore, he would still try his best to get up and follow me around.
It is quite humbling to know that something can love you that much.
I know many of you reading this can relate because chances are you have a dog or pet that is loyal beyond imagination too. I think this is the greatest thing about dogs and if us as humans had even half the amount of loyalty, our world would be such a better place.
I am thankful for the ride we had together.
I will remember all the rides in the truck, all the balls that were retrieved and the fun watering holes we discovered and swam in.
But most of all, I will remember his loyalty to me.
Loyalty always wins!
Here’s to your Mr B. you were a great dog and I am going to miss you.
